NIN And BVN Bank Account Linkage March 1st 2024 - What Is Next

Have you linked your National Identification Number (NIN) and Bank Verification Number (BVN) to your bank account? Today 1st March 2024 is the deadline for linkage according to instructions.

Recall that the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN directed the banks to implement the use of Bank Verification Numbers (BVN) and National Identity Numbers (NIN) for all bank transactions starting from March 1, 2024.

In line with that, the various banks in Nigeria have asked their customers to ensure that customers Biometric Verification Number (BVN) and National Identification Number (NIN) are linked to their account number on or before 29 February 2024.

Bank have introduced ways that their customers can seamlessly linked their NIN.and BVN to their bank account. You can seamlessly update your account information with your BVN and NIN by visiting any of your bank branches close to you.

If the phone number linked to your bank account is the number you used for your BVN and NIN registration, then be rest assured that they are linked to your bank account. However, you are advised to confirm the linkage from your bank to be sure.

Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) through its circular dated 01 December 2023, has directed that effective, 01 March 2024, all funded accounts without BVN shall be placed on ‘Post No Debit or Credit’ and no further transactions permitted.

Furthermore, NIMC had advised that Nigerians to link their National Identification Number (NIN) to both their SIM card and Bank Verification Number (BVN) if they are yet to do so.
