Proposed Alternate School Programme Will Aid Quality Education - Humanitarian Ministry

Humanitarian Minister Sadiya Umar Farouq, HMS of Education, Emeka Nwajiuba and Rep @ossap_sdgs attended a briefing on the proposed Alternate School Program. This program is critical given the socio-economic effects with 10,193,918 out-of-school children in Nigeria which can further deepen Nigeria's inequality divide.

The Alternate School Programme proposes to integrate vocational training or religious education with basic education thereby engaging disadvantaged children. Through this initiative, all children will have access to quality education thus promoting inclusiveness across religious, social and cultural lines.

Since the closure of Schools due to Covid-19, the Ministry of Humanitarian affairs has been feeding Primary 1 to 3 childreen from home through the Modified Home School Programme. The Modified Home School Programme is a special Covid-19 intervention based on a Presidential directive to find strategies of keeping school children fed while at home. It is planned to target 3,131,971 households.
