The School feeding programme will impact 3,131,971 households across the nation. The only difference is that instead of children getting cooked meals in school, their parents/guardians would get food items. No children will be involved in the process. The rations would be given to their parents/guardians/caregivers who will adhere to strict Covid-19 social distancing measures.
According to the Ministry of humanitarian affairs, in times of crisis hunger is the first byproduct. Cognizant of that fact the FG is giving relief to families of primary 1-3 children through the National Home Grown School Programme in line SDG 2 - which commits to end hunger in all its forms by 2030, to achieve food security.
Each Take home ration is made up of 5 kg Bag of Rice, 5 kg Bag of Beans, 500 ml Vegetable Oil, 750 ml Palm Oil, 500 mg Salt, 15 pcs of eggs, 140gm Tomato Paste.
Over the past few days, QR coded, date and time stamped vouchers have been distributed door to door using data supplied by states and the NHGSFP.
The FG is funding the programme which will run in all 36 states and Abuja starting from Abuja then Lagos and Ogun before other states. The states are implementing with the World Food Programme providing Technical support.
