The Honorable minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, was present at the Activation of the GEEP infrastructure for the purpose of providing urgent micro loans to petty traders and artisans nationwide to cushion the economic hardships of COVID-19.
The event took place at Obalende LCDA Community Market in Lagos. Following strict social distancing guidelines, petty traders with their wares were placed in safe distances in which they were provided with GEEP loans by kitted staff of the Programme.
Beneficiaries benefiting from this loan and the previous beneficiaries will enjoy the 3-month Moratorium directed by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Over the next few weeks, Federal Ministry of humanitarian affairs, disaster management and social development will disburse 100,000 interest-free loans to petty traders' mobile wallets, with emphasis on lockdown states. A subsequent expansion follows to 500,000 nationwide. Focus is on waiting traders in the GEEP data backlog.
