The Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq has said that the Ministry will work with the Government of Zamfara State to provide support and lasting solutions to thousands of displaced persons in the State. The Minister disclosed this when the Governor of Zamfara State His Excellency, Bello Muhammad Matawalle paid a courtesy call on the Honourable Minister in Abuja on the 16th of January 2020.
Hajiya Sadiya Umar Faruoq, expressed her pleasure at the Governor’s visit noting that it was timely and a welcome gesture. The Governor on his part congratulated the Honourable Minister on her appointment stating that in the few months she has steered the affairs of the Ministry she has proved she is the right person for the job adding that, ‘’as a virtuous daughter of Zamfara State he had no doubt that she would perform excellently well and impact positively on the many Nigerians affected by humanitarian emergencies, disasters and social issues.
Discussions between them centred on the humanitarian issues in Zamfara State and options for providing lasting solutions. The Minister noted that ‘’while the recent spate of banditry in parts of Zamfara State is unfortunate and worrisome, I am confident that collaborative efforts between the government at the State and Federal level as well as other relevant stakeholders can work together to ensure victims are provided with immediate relief and durable solutions to their plight’’.
She Commended the Governor for the efforts of his Government in managing the situation and providing immediate relief and support to the victims of attacks in the State. The meeting which had in attendance the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Tijjani Umar and top officials of the Zamfara State Government has set the stage for robust collaborations between the Ministry and the State.
