Why Npower Volunteers Are The Best Option For Community Policing

Few days ago, there were excitement everywhere regarding the news about the Federal Government and States Government plans of recruiting Corps Members or Npower Volunteers and others for Community policing  to makeup shortage of manpower in the police service.

Out of the option given, we think N-power volunteers will better serve the aim and objectives of the community policing because of how their journey began and the foundation laid by the initiators. The Graduate Npower volunteers have already  serve as corps member for One year then serve another two years as assistant Teachers, health and Agriculture extension workers.

So, if you look at what community policing entails and relate it with the settings of our communities in terms of what the people need and how the people live, you will understand that the best option is using the Npower volunteers because the have had the opportunity and experience in communicating with people in their communities directly. How did this happened? Well the N-power Volunteers has been engaging with people in their communities since the past two years  straight from the class room as teachers, interacting with farmers as Agric extension workers, assisting the people in the various health center as health extension workers in their communities. So they know what the people need and how to relate with them.

Using them as community police is for the police to build relationships with the community through interactions with local agencies and members of the public, creating partnerships and strategies for reducing crime and disorder will be easy because they have acquired the skills of resolving conflicts, helping victims, preventing accidents, solving problems, and fighting fear in what they do as volunteers in their various places of Primary assignment.

We are not saying that the other options are not good. All we are saying is that, if the FG and governors can see reason to this and recruit these set of volunteers trained them in the act of enforcement in addition to the skills they have acquired, it will help in reducing communal as well as reducing crime throughout Nigeria. The recruitment process will be cheap, easy, free and fair because the government already have clean data of all the Npower volunteers.
